Flood & Drain units are among the easiest systems to use yet perform extremely well. Plants sit in the upper tray either in individual pots or the tray can be filled with the media of your choice ranging from Pea gravel, Hydroton, Rockwool, Coco Coir etc. and the plants placed directly in. A Reservoir under the tray contains rich nutrient solution which is pumped to the top tray then allowed to drain back to the reservoir. The intervals in which this happens are refereed to as "cycles" and are controlled by a timer that links directly to the pump. It is up to you to determine how often to initiate the flood & drain cycle depending on a few factors like type of plant, type of media, environment etc. Usually this takes place every 3 to 4 hours. What happens during a cycle is the roots are supplied with fresh cool nutrient and upon draining back to the reservoir the solution level in the top tray slowly drops dragging fresh oxygen to the roots leaving an ideal water/nutrient/O2 ratio causing explosive growth that soil just cannot rival. This system can perform as well, or out perform any Flood & Drain on the market and with a 2 year warranty it will be hard to top.
